Double Holotropic Breathwork® - Samhain Retreat, Otaki

Holotropic Breathwork Otaki

Transformational Double Holotropic Breathwork Residential Retreat during powerful weekend of southern hemisphere Samhain in beautiful space of Waihōanga center, close to the forest and fresh Otaki river.

On Thursday evening will be optional Sweat Lodge ceremony, to open the circle and give us cleansing. Followed by 2 days of Holotropic Breathwork, with two sessions each day. Participants are alternating between role of breather and sitter, so each participant will be breathing twice over those two days.
We close with sharing circle and integration work on Sunday. Departure around 1pm.

Holotropic Breathwork
was developed by Stanislav Grof M.D. and Christina Grof, two leading pioneers in the field of Transpersonal Psychology. The word “holotropic” (from the Greek words “holos”and “trepein”) can be described as the journey or movement toward wholeness.

Holotropic Breathwork sessions use accelerated breathing and a dynamic musical journey as a method of entering into a non-ordinary state of consciousness. A natural mobilizing process is then activated within the psyche which allows for the emergence of one’s own “inner healing intelligence” to guide the session. Facilitators offer support and energy-release bodywork as needed. One day workshops include two breathwork sessions in the role of breather and sitter, group sharing, mandala drawing and exploring methods of integration. Holotropic Breathwork is of value to anyone that is interested in self-exploration, self-healing and spiritual awareness.

Some of the benefits and results of Holotropic Breathwork are:
• powerful tool of self-exploration
• release of emotional and energetic blocks
• creative inspiration
• inner guidance and insights
• support during times of transition or grieving
• working with family of origin issues
• exploration of the emotional connection to physical ailments
• renewed spiritual connection

Sweat Lodge

Are heated dome-shaped structures used by Indigenous peoples during certain purification rites and as a way to promote healthy living. The intense heat generated — often by steam created from pouring water onto heated rocks — is meant to encourage a sweating out of toxins and negative energy that create disorder and imbalance in life. In this way, the sweat lodge ceremony cleanses the body, mind and soul.

Facilitator Spotlight

Vicky

Vicky Nicholson (teacher; advisor; director of GTT Australia) has a passion both for Holotropic Breathwork and education. She has worked on staff at GTT training modules since 2005 in Australia and the US and coordinates the Australian modules. She is particularly interested in working with her community and learning to live the Holotropic principles and paradigm of moving towards wholeness as a daily spiritual practice in every-day life.
She is an educator in Tasmania, Australia and works alongside Aboriginal people to support teachers and students to improve educational outcomes, particularly for Aboriginal children.
Teachers are encouraged to explore and live from an increasingly holistic worldview, as lived by Aboriginal people, to more fully realize their potential as educators for themselves, their students and school communities. Information about the work Vicky and others are doing this field, including videos, can be seen here.
She is particularly moved and filled with gratitude to be allowed to be a witness to people’s deep journey work as they venture into their soul through Holotropic Breathwork, as she herself has been witnessed and supported by others on her own journey.

Jiri Hanus, GTT-certified Holotropic Breathwork facilitator, has been committed to this method since 2008. His passion for exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness led him to bring this transformative practice to Aotearoa, where he runs workshops and retreats since 2022.
In addition to Holotropic Breathwork, Jiri is a certified facilitator of Trance Dance Ritual, Amazonian medicine Kambo, and OSHO meditations.

We are looking forward to share this wonderful event with you here in Aotearoa.

Arohanui,
Jiri & Vicky
